If your OMN installation uses the default location for your maps then the installation of OMN2 should pick up your current maps and they will be available to the Beta version.

If, like me, you keep data off the system drive then you have moved them to a different drive and the will not be found during the installation and a new default folder will be allocated. Eventually I am sure all this will be handled by the installation process and data on other drives found.

Also changing the drive will be handled by the Options settings in OMN2 but at present to make the beta version use you existing maps you have to manually edit the 'settings.xml' file for OMN2 to point to the Pkgs folder used by the current version of OMN.

Graham gave instructions for doing this and and an explanation of what some of the setting meant in one of his posts but that is now lost in all the other posts so I extracted just the relevant bits and created these instructions.

The original post can be found here.

I have produced a short video showing this process. It is unlisted so you can only access it via this link.

There are a couple of problems with doing this;

1. You have to know where your current Pkgs folder is.

2. You have to know where to look for the appropriate settings.xml file.

Please be careful when making these changes as if you get it wrong OMN2 may not start.

Locating Your Pkgs Folder

Start OMN and go to Settings->Options->My Account.

Under the heading 'Map Download Folder' you will see a label 'Save To:' and a drive letter. Take a note of this letter.

You can now close OMN.

Start Windows File Explorer and go to this drive and look for a folder ProgramData. In that should be a folder 'Outdoor Map Naviagator' and within that a folder with long number.

Inside that is the Pkgs folder. Expand that and you will see a list of map types.

The path to this folder should now be shown at the top of the window.

If you click just to right of it it should change to 'proper' path and be highlighted in blue.

Right-click on this and copy it. This is what you need for the settings file.

Editing the setting.xml File

Before attempting this make sure you can see 'Hidden Files and Folders'. For Windows 10 tick the 'Hidden items' box on View tab of Windows File Explorer. For other older version you have to change and option in one of he settings.

The file is located in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Outdoor Map Navigator\{big number}.

If you don't have show hidden files and folders set you will not see the AppData folder.

The {big number} should be the same a s the one you saw when locating your existing maps.

In this folder are a couple of folders and the XML file name settings.

Select this file and then right-click on it and select edit. It is just a text file so you can edit it with basic Notepad (or your preferred editor if you have something more appropriate - I use Notepad++).

On about the 8th line down you will see an entry for the packages folder. It will look something like this:

 <PackagesFolder>C:\ProgramData\Outdoor Map Navigator\pkgs</PackagesFolder>

You need to change this so it points to the folder where your maps are.

Select the existing path in the entry and replace it with the path you copied earlier.

<PackagesFolder>E:\ProgramData\Outdoor Map Navigator\{big number}\Pkgs</PackagesFolder>

Save the changed file. Open OMN2 and you should ne have access to your existing maps.

Remember that the original maps did not use the enhanced zoom feature so you will see 'Downloading' appearing a few times as you zoom in and out while new mapping is installed.

Good luck!
